Meanwhile home buyers get onto the property ladder the quickest in Sheffield.
First-time buyers in Edinburgh are the last to get onto the property ladder across the UK, online estate agent Nested has found.
Nested’s First-Time BuyersAgeIndexshowed that house hunters are 30 when they buy their first home in the Scottish capital.
Sheffield sees the youngest first-time buyers, with an average age of 23.
Ben Bailey, a spokesperson at Nested, said: “Our inauguralFirst-Time BuyersAgeIndexprovides a fascinating snapshot of today’s home-buying habits by revealing that house-hunters in the capital are getting on the property ladder at a youngeragethan many would imagine.
“Our research also highlighted that two thirds of Brits (67%) fear they’ll never be homeowners yet we’ve demonstrated that the average ageof afirst-time buyer in the UK is 27, which has remained unchanged in a generation.”
While London is often seen as a no-go-zone forfirst-time buyers, the city has emerged as having some of the youngest in the country with an averageageof 26.
The research also found on average homebuyers expect to own and live in 2.5 properties throughout our lifetime.
