Contrastingly households with somebody under the age of 30 who is legally responsible see most of their spending (59%) go on net rent.
Mortgage costs represent the largest housing expenditure for households aged 30 to 49, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
This accounts for 36% of all housing expenditure alongside net rent, secondary dwelling, charges, moving house, maintenance/repair of dwelling, alterations and improvements to dwelling, and household insurances.
