There were 166,100 annual new build dwelling starts in the year to September 2017.
New build dwelling starts in England were estimated at 40,070, a 4% decrease compared to the previousthreemonths and a 1% increase on the previous year.
The Department for Communities & Local Government Housebuilding statistics also showed completions were estimated at 39,250,2%lower than the previous quarter and 5% higher than last year.
Craig Hall, new build manageratLegal & General Mortgage Club,said: on the Department for Communities & Local Government Housebuilding statistics (Q3): “The year on year increase in the number of new build starts and completions is certainly a step in the right direction, but it is clear that we still have a long way to go if we are to meet the Government’s target of delivering 300,000 new homes per year.
“However, given the focus in the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget on addressing our housing crisis with a further £44bn funding over the next five years providing support for SME’s, developing construction skills and modern methods of construction, we should start to see significant improvements in the number of houses built in 2018 and beyond.”
There were 166,100 annual new build dwelling starts in the year to September 2017, 10% more than that the year to September 2016. During the same period, completions totalled 154,220, an increase of nine per cent compared with last year.
From 2016 to 2017 houses made up 75% of all new build dwelling completions, which was the highest proportion since 2001-02.
Starts by housing associations were 1%higher compared to the last quarter and completions 1% lower.
