Williamson was chief executive officer at Nationwide from 2002 to 2007 where he was responsible for leading the biggest ever building society merger when the Portman joined Nationwide.
He has also held the position of chairman at Investors in People, the Building Societies Association and the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
