Returned to the board in the ‘large network’ constituency is Stephen Smith, director of housing marketing at Legal & General, while Sally Laker, managing director of Mortgage Intelligence, is also re-elected in the ‘small network’ constituency.
Hilary Penfold, compliance director at Guaranteed Home Loans, is newly elected in the ‘small network’ constituency, taking the position previously held by Frank Thurlby, head of compliance at Genesis.
Chris Cummings, director of AMI, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Hilary as a new board member. She’s been a regional chairman for AMI for two years now and adding a new person to the board always offers a new perspective with fresh thinking and a new way of looking at issues.”
Smith said he was looking forward to the further challenges that being on the board of AMI would bring. “I’m genuinely delighted to be elected to the board,” he said. “It’s nice to be on the board ‘properly’ after the first two years when I was co-opted onto it.
“Following the successful establishment of the fee instalment system we must now look at areas such as prospective EU legislation that may affect the industry. I hope AMI becomes as strong and powerful for mortgage intermediaries as the CML is for lenders.”
l Chris Cummings has replaced David Severn as director-general of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA). Severn has stepped down due to illness. Fay Goddard, currently director of policy at AIFA, will replace Cummings as deputy director-general.
Cummings said his new position would not affect his role at AMI. “The plan going forward for both AMI and AIFA is to recruit more people and add more strength to our policy teams,” he said.
“AIFAis terrific at fighting the adviser’s corner and being heard by government, and this will continue.”
