Commenting on the appointment, Paul Smee, director general of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers and a member of the AMI Divisional Board, said: "We are pleased to have been able to secure the appointment of someone of the calibre of Chris Cummings. Chris has extensive experience of the mortgage market and of working with trade bodies as a practitioner. So he will bring mortgage experience allied with public policy experience. His background in marketing and business strategy will also be a valuable asset to AMI and should help to accelerate the rate at which membership grows. I look forward to working with him."
Chris Cummings will take up his post in mid-May. He is the first member of staff to have been appointed to AMI. Reporting to Paul Smee, his responsibilities will include setting up and running the AMI and influencing the creation of the new regulatory mortgage regime.
