Are banks lending? Have your say

Despite numerous government promises of money and schemes to get the banks lending again, deep questions remain about whether the new funds are getting through to cash-strapped businesses.

The online survey currently running on the London evening paper website asks businesses whether their bank managers are lending, or whether they are clawing back what money they can.

The Federation of Small Businesses has joined in the survey, urging 5,500 members from London and the South East to respond: “It is important to hear from our members whether the government-guaranteed money is coming through in loans or overdrafts,” commented Federation of Small Businesses Chairman, John Wright.

William Flatau of First Finance said the survey aimed to provide evidence of whether the banks were genuinely lending to UK businesses. He added: ”The government has given billions to the banks to get them lending, and we want to know whether that money is getting through to cash-strapped businesses.”
