The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a property advert from appearing in its current form.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a property advert from appearing in its current form.
On 31 July, Manchestersalerent.co.uk posted a listing for a house for sale in Rackenford, North Devon.
The complainant challenged whether the advert was misleading because the property was not available to buy.
Furthermore, Manchestersalerent.co.uk did not respond to the ASA’s enquiries.
According to the ASA, it was concerned by Manchestersalerent.co.uk’s lack of response and apparent disregard for the code.
As a result, the authority reminded the property platform of its responsibility to respond promptly to its enquiries and told them to do so in future.
It determined that consumers would understand from the description of the property in the advert that the property was available for purchase.
The ASA said that the property had not been on the market since 2017 and remained on the website despite several requests to remove it.
In conclusion, based off the information received, the ASA decided the advert must not appear again in its current form.
It told Manchestersalerent.co.uk to ensure that it did not display listings for properties that were not available for purchase, and referred the matter to CAP’s compliance team.
