Kevin Murdoch, senior proposition development manager, Aviva, UK Health said: "Aviva is committed to ensuring that Income Protection Solutions remains highly competitive and while own occupation terms have been offered to dental surgeons for some time, we are seeing an increased interest from intermediaries to offer other surgeons the option to protect their income based on their ability to perform their own role.
"In response to this we now offer the choice of either the suited definition, with its associated cost savings, or own occupation, enabling medical professionals to choose the level of cover that suits their own personal needs."
This improvement follows Aviva's recent announcement that they were introducing an innovative discount for customers with an exclusion (including partial) for mental health and/or spinal conditions. Aviva customers taking out an Income Protection Solutions policy also benefit from temporary accident cover, offering them up to 90 days' free accident cover whilst the policy is being underwritten.
