BM said the partnership aims to set the benchmark for responsible lenders in specialist markets.
A recent Shelter charity football match alone aimed to raise £60,000. Shelter and BM Solutions will share policy and good practice, and will work together in tackling the causes and consequences of bad housing.
Michael Bolton, managing director of BM Solutions, said: “As an industry we have social responsibilities. Treating customers fairly and responsible lending should mean something.
“We are proud to support Shelter and all it does to help people in difficulty. We encourage other lenders to join us in support of Shelter.”
Liz Monks, deputy director of fundraising at Shelter, commented: “We are very grateful to Birmingham Midshires for its support and we hope that over the coming years we can raise money to help people who are suffering the effects of bad housing.
“We also hope we can develop a partnership that helps tackle some of the problems of homelessness before they happen.”
Mike Fitzgerald, sales director at Brentchase Financial Services, said: “Anything that shows the respectable face of lending and financial services is a positive thing.
Lenders and brokers are always quick to help people but they get criticised a lot. This is a good step to help combat this and do some good for charity as well.”
Peter Beaumont, sales and marketing director at Mortgages plc, commented: “This is a great initiative and a lovely idea.”
