Media reports this afternoon cast doubt on whether the former edeus chief executive and former HBOS specialist lending head was still employed at the firm.
But speaking exclusively to Mortgage Introducer this afternoon Bolton hit back at the rumours – which have been circulating for at least a month – and said: “There are certain media outlets in the mortgage industry that have never been known for their, let’s say this politely, their accuracy.
“If they had had the courtesy to call me on my Clayton business phone today, or now on Monday presumably to apologise, they will find me very much still at Clayton.
“Perhaps they have mistaken me for the CEO of Clayton in the US, Paul Bossidy, who is leaving today after his departure was announced on Wednesday.
“As I said, attention to the details have never been high on the priority of some media outlets.”
Bolton flew out to New York late this afternoon and is there until Friday.
