Fresh Start has said that not only do Brits have the most depressing bank holidays weather-wise, but we also get less of them. It says that in comparison to our European cousins who have an average of 11 public holidays a year, we are short-changed with just eight.
Official figures show that 630,000 British families bought property overseas in 2003, 14% higher than the previous year. Further research from Fresh Start 2005 reveals that almost three-quarters of young professionals are planning to live overseas at some point in their future.
Whilst this holiday weekend looks set to be another washout, temperatures in the Spanish Costas will be hitting up to 27 degrees. Similarly, the South of France will be basking in eight hours of sunshine a day and, across the pond, Florida won’t see the mercury drop below 22 as a minimum. Fresh Start says it's therefore not much of a surprise that these are the destinations that prove the most popular with Brits moving overseas.
Nick Clark, Managing Director of Fresh Start, comments: “A key factor for many people buying a holiday home or permanent residence overseas is the improvement in their quality of life. It is clear that with better weather and more public holidays, destinations such as Spain, France and Florida have a lot to offer British property buyers.”
The Fresh Start Show will provide information and advice for anyone considering living, working or investing abroad. Held at the ExCeL Centre in London’s Docklands from 13 to 15 May, over 100 exhibitors and a full seminar programme will include the New Zealand, Australian and Canadian immigration services as well as specialists in overseas property, money transfers, removals and others, covering emigration to Europe and the rest of the world.
