According to the research, a low number of people sourced conveyancers through an intermediary, while other methods proved to be more popular.
33 per cent of respondents sourced conveyancers through their estate agent while 22 per cent asked their family and friends. However, broker recommendations rose to 13 per cent for second-time buyers.
Good service was highlighted as important as the majority of respondents trusted family and friends recommendations over that of a professional. Consumers also voted brokers as the most trustworthy of all professionals, with estate agents, solicitors and online comparison sites receiving less popularity.
Karen Babington, sales and marketing director at Easier2move, commented: “The research does show that more consumers are planning to use their intermediary to source their next conveyancer, as they seem to be shying away from other introducers such as estate agents and solicitors.
“However, considering intermediaries can earn a generous income stream of £100 per conveyancing referral, there must be more they can do to take advantage of this revenue. In light of the current market turmoil, this additional income can be a great way for advisers to diversify and compensate for any losses they’ve experienced.”
Jonathan Barnett, of All Mortgage Matters, said: “I have had a number of enquiries when clients are moving and I usually put them in touch with a local solicitor who is very good.”
