The research firm also claimed that just one in 100 brokers thinks lenders have an excellent understanding of the challenges they face in the current market while a third of brokers said that they would appreciate lenders taking more time to understand underwriting issues their clients might have.
Julie Irwin, director at Charterhouse Research, said: “In simplistic terms, intermediaries are feeling very much unloved. For many, their perception is that they are fighting a losing battle and are being squeezed out.”
Brokers also expressed a wish to have improved access to key decision makers, more flexibility in products and underwriting and less adverse dual pricing.
“From our experience, those lenders that do listen demonstrate above average performance,” added Irwin. “It is therefore in everyone’s interests – lenders, intermediaries and their clients – if lenders begin to understand the needs and issues of intermediaries far better.”
