BSA appoints head of external affairs

McVitty will take up her appointment on 22 August 2011. She was previously head of communications at The Pennies Foundation and has worked at Woolwich as group media relations manager.

From 2001, following the acquisition of the Woolwich by Barclays Bank, McVitty worked as head of public relations and as media relations director.

Adrian Coles, director general of the BSA, said: “We are delighted to have appointed someone with such relevant skills and experience as Hilary. She has valuable external relations experience with a building society and in the financial services sector more generally, and we very much look forward to welcoming her to the BSA when she joins us in August.”

Hilary McVitty added: “I am delighted to be joining the BSA. It's an exciting time for mutuals, with the government having pledged to promote mutuals and foster diversity in financial services. I look forward to fully representing BSA members' interests by raising the sector's profile and promoting its distinctiveness across government and the media.”
