Westhoff will take over with immediate effect from Yorkshire Building Society chief executive Chris Pilling, who is also stepping down from his role at the Yorkshire at the end of the year.
The Building Societies Association has elected a new deputy chairman in Jonathan Westhoff, chief executive of West Bromwich Building Society.

Dick Jenkins, chief executive of the Bath Building Society and BSA chairman said: “Jonathan has already proved himself a thoughtfully outspoken member of the BSA Council and I am looking forward to working alongside him in his new role as deputy chairman.
“I also want to thank Chris Pilling for his hard work and insightful thinking during his time on the BSA council and as deputy chairman.
“I look forward to welcoming Mike Regnier onto the BSA Council when he takes up his role as chief executive of the Yorkshire Building Society in the New Year.”
Westhoff said: “This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the BSA’s outstanding work in supporting building societies and the vital role they play by consistently providing a supply of finance for housing and looking after the interests of savers.”
Pilling has been deputy chairman since November 2015.
