Adrian Coles, Director-General of the Building Societies Association, said: “Last month was the highest June lending figure on record. With approvals (loans agreed but not yet made) also at record levels, strong lending is expected to continue into the second half of the year. Given the optimism in the market we would remind potential borrowers not to over commit themselves, especially as inflationary pressure could signal a rate rise later in the year.”
