Budget 21: Sunak introduces Restart Grant to "help businesses get going again"

Budget 21: Chancellor Rishi Sunak (pictured) has revealed a new 'Restart Grant' to be introduced in order to help businesses closed as a result of COVID-19 to reopen.

The grant will be brought into play in April, following the end of existing grant programmes in March.

Non-essential retailers, which will open first, will receive grants of up to £6,000 per premise; hospitality and leisure business which will open later and be more heavily impacted by restrictions, will be able to claim up to £18,000.

This equates to £5bn of new grants on top of the £20bn already provided, according to Sunak.
