Each year, Leeds Building Society makes a donation to the club equivalent to 1% of the total balances held in the Leeds United Saver account, and it doesn’t cost fans a thing. Since the launch of the account in 1997, over £560,000 has been donated to Leeds United Football Club.
Nigel Wray, head of marketing at Leeds Building Society, said: "It was great to be present at Leeds United’s first game back in the championship, and with the BBC cameras in attendance as well. There was a great atmosphere in the stadium, with 26,000 enthusiastic fans cheering the team on.
"The day was made all the more special by meeting Leeds United legend Peter Lorimer, who received the large presentation cheque on behalf of the club.
"Leeds Building Society is very keen to support grassroots sports in the areas within which we operate and this £45,336 donation will go towards helping youth development at Leeds United."
Peter Lorimer added: "We were delighted to welcome representatives from Leeds Building Society to Elland Road for our first home game against Derby County. The Leeds United saver is a great account and I would thoroughly recommend it to all fans."
