The move comes after Mortgage Introducer revealed in August 2005 Chelsea’s plan to implement a ‘massive shake-up’ of its intermediary business. The lender announced plans to change the point of contact for brokers from a branch manager to a new mortgage sales manager.
The intermediary sales controller, Chris Maggs – previously national sales manager for Portman Building Society and The Mortgage Works – will be responsible for developing a new intermediary sales team in the South of England and increasing awareness of Chelsea’s product proposition. Chelsea is in the process of hiring six mortgage sales managers to work under Maggs.
Tom Gurrie, head of intermediary sales at Chelsea, explained the changes come as a result of a strategic review of the way it manages intermediary relationships and to ensure its already successful business model is delivering the level of service brokers need and desire.
Speaking of Maggs’ appointment he said: “It’s great to have Chris joining our already successful team. Chelsea’s increased presence in the South of England will strengthen the service we offer to the intermediary market and Chris’ wealth of experience in the mortgage sector will be a real asset to us.”
Maggs said: “I’m delighted to join such a progressive company. This is a significant opportunity and I’m looking forward to building a sales team which will focus on generating mortgage business and developing solid relationships with intermediaries.”
David Hollingworth, mortgage specialist at London & Country, said: “An increased presence by Chelsea in the Southern market has been noted and it seems it has recognised an area in which to improve service and broker relations, which is obviously a welcome move.”
