Currently Public Affairs Director of the LIA (Life Insurance Association), Ellis will take up his new position on 1 January 2005 when the LIA officially merges with SOFA (Society of Financial Advisers) to become The Personal Finance Society, part of the CII.
In his new role Ellis will focus predominantly on relations with key opinion formers such as regulators and Government, acting as the voice of the CII and the Personal Finance Society and their members.
Commenting on Ellis’s appointment Dr Sandy Scott, CII Director General, said: "John has a wealth of experience of public affairs and lobbying and will be an invaluable addition to the CII Group. In particular, he will considerably add to the CII Group’s efforts to get our messages across effectively to policymakers, regulators and stakeholders."
John Ellis commented: "With consumer confidence at an all time low, the financial services industry is facing some of the biggest challenges it has ever seen, from depolarisation and the governance of mutuals, to the introduction of both mortgage regulation and the Sandler suit of products, and impending general insurance regulation. These and other changes have enormous implications for the industry as a whole and there is a huge job to be done, not only in the interpretation of the changes and proposals, but also in communicating with those responsible for them."
