The poll, conducted in the CISI survey, asked whether the Government will be effective in tackling the UK debt deficit and running the economy.
Of those financial services practitioners who responded, 47% feel it will achieve positive results in both key areas. A further 18% believe it will perform well only in cutting the deficit while 10% think it can be counted on only to run the economy well.
However, 25% believe it will be ineffective on both counts.
Among comments from contributors were: "The Government has made a good start and is showing the right signs of determination, which it will need."
But another said: "People voted for a party and manifesto, not a halfway house. You can't rule by committee."
