Conservatories would give sellers a profit of £5,750 when taking installation costs of around £5,300 into account.
This marks a 108% return on investment, above garden renovations (88%), extensions (71%) and improvements to the roof (63%).
At the other end of the scale homeowners make a return of just £2,350 (48%) on bathroom renovations, which cost around £4,900 to install.
Giles Andrews, chief executive and co-founder of Zopa, said: “With the latest housing market reports showing the market to be slowing down, home owners could add significant value by looking at ways to improve their current homes, rather than move.
“With record low rates on borrowing, home improvements can be a cost-effective way to add value to your property for the long-term.”
The average home improvement adds 10% to the property’s value, which totals around £30,000 based on average property values.
Not all homeowners who renovate are looking to put their property on the market, as eight out of 10 (82%) are not planning on selling up soon.
