Richard Barnett, senior partner, questioned the decision adding the move to introduce compulsory packs would increase the costs associated with selling a property.
Commenting on the introduction he said: “I've never been a fan of sellers’ packs. I don't think they will speed up the process especially as e-conveyancing will be in place shortly making the packs a little unnecessary. What also must be taken into account is cost associated in producing a sellers’ pack - approximately £600 will go on top of the estate agents’ commission and legal fees. It could be seen as another way of the Government making money out of the housing market.
“However, I do see some merit in the preparation of a home condition report, but this is seen to be the most controversial item. Lenders might be reluctant to rely on a report prepared for them from someone not appointed by them.”
