Flint said that housing was still a major priority for the current government, with greener homes taking a key role.
"We desperately need more affordable housing - to help first-time buyers and young families who are struggling to get a foot on the housing ladder," she said.
"I relish the opportunity to drive forward the Government's ambitious programme of investment and reform."
As Minister for Public Health from May 2005-June 2007, Flint was responsible for taking the Health Act 2006 through Parliament, culminating in a law being passed for England to go smoke-free from 1 July 2007.
Her most recent role was as Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform with responsibilities including the labour market, welfare to work and child poverty. In the past, Flint has also been Minister for Yorkshire and Humber.
