Data from Infoserve’s local search directories, which receive 32 million hits a month, has recorded a 94 per cent increase in the number of searches for ‘mortgage advisers’ since September 2008.
The results reflect a recent report from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, which also announced a 49 per cent rise in mortgage and secured loan arrears enquiries .
Commenting on the figures, Infoserve’s head of product, Richard Lee said, “It may be that the unstable economic outlook has created a lot of confusion in the market and more people are looking for advice, or the optimists may point to the ‘green shoots’ in the housing market for the increase in activity.
“Whatever the reason, these figures certainly reinforce the power of the internet in connecting consumers with businesses, and with an increasing number of people turning to the internet to find help, those mortgage advisers who are found easily online are perfectly placed to pick up any enquiries.”
