Stewart informed society members and shareholders of his decision to step down at the Coventry’s AGM earlier today.
The Coventry confirmed that Stewart would be leaving but a spokesperson was keen to point out that it will be “business as usual” at the society.
The society confirmed that Stewart will be staying in post whilst a successor is found but could not elaborate on his reasons for the decision.
Stewart joined the Board of the Coventry in 2002 as finance director before assuming Board responsibility for the sales and marketing functions in 2004. He was appointed chief executive in 2006.
Stewart is deputy chairman of the Building Societies Association and is a member of both the Chairman’s and Executive Committees of the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
