The letter is in response to complaints made last year at the Expo where a few disgruntled exhibitors found the inclusion of bunny girls on some stand and a pole dancer on another stand inappropriate.
In the letter, Andy White, show director at Clarion, said: “While the London show was an undoubted success, the appearance of scantily dressed models on some exhibitor’s stands resulted in a number of complaints from exhibitors and visitors.
“With the mortgage industry constantly under the spotlight it is essential that we do not allow the industry’s reputation to be damaged by the actions of exhibitors who may use this opportunity to employ questionable tactics to promote their company or products.
“We therefore reserve the right to remove or prohibit any exhibits which we believe to be offensive, distasteful or not in the best interests of the exhibition.”
The letter ends by saying: “As we will be enforcing this rigorously throughout the show, I would ask that if you are in any doubt as to suitability of your stand or its contents to please phone me as soon as possible and I will be happy to discuss this with you.”
Julian Wells, head of marketing at Mortgages plc, said: “Everybody knows it is an important year for the industry and it’s vital that the public image of the industry is seen as professional.”
