His newly launched website ‘www.helpmegetamortgagedeposit.com’ enables organisations and individuals alike to buy pixel advertising space in return for a minimum £25 purchase (at a rate of £0.25p/pixel).
Disillusioned by high deposit requirements for first-time home buyers, De Coster is taking a leaf out of young Brit Alex Tew’s book, who famously raised $1,000,000 by selling pixel advertising space.
“Monthly mortgage repayments are not an issue,” De Coster said. “Getting the initial deposit amount together (often a minimum 15% of the property value) is where the struggle lies for first-time buyers. By launching the website, I aim to raise awareness and sincerely hope that the government and banking institutions alike will make practical changes to accommodate young families trying to settle in a home of their own.”
Through www.helpmegetamortgagedeposit.com, Dries De Coster also wants to raise enough deposit money to purchase a first family home for his wife, himself and their three-month-old baby boy.
“At the end of the day, paying rent month-by-month does not leave my family with any asset. I plan on advertising the website through social networking websites and the media. Although not limited to the following, I hope the construction industry and financial institutions in particular would want to financially contribute to this project by purchasing advertising space. 10% of all earnings will be donated to charity.”
