The FSA will have their own stand with a number of representatives answering questions on a one-on-one basis in an open and friendly environment, as well as a strong presence in the seminar programme.
The FSA’s presence in Manchester follows the authority’s involvement with the Mortgage Business Expo in London in November last year, when they spoke to hundreds of advisers over the two days.
The FSA cannot make commercial decisions for firms but it can provide unbiased information on the options available and ongoing compliance that will enable advisers to make decisions for themselves.
The FSA’s Sarah Wilson, Director High Street Firms Division, said: “The FSA is committed to doing everything it can to help mortgage intermediaries prepare for the new regime by answering questions about their options and what will be expected of them once regulation comes into force.
Of course firms shouldn’t leave it too late to make their minds up. Many firms have already registered but we know many firms are still undecided about what is best for them. I would urge those firms that want to become directly authorised to send in their completed applications as soon as possible – it is in everyone’s best interests to avoid a last minute rush for authorisation.”
