Zitah joins from the Department for Work and Pensions where she has been acting director of communications. Previously she was marketing director and brand director at worldwide communications agency Publicis, working across a variety of global blue-chip brands.
She will take up her new role in January and will report to the FSA's chief executive, Hector Sants.
Hector Sants said: "I am delighted to announce the appointment of Zitah McMillan as communications director. Zitah brings to this role a wealth of communications experience ranging from working with global blue-chip companies to working within a large-scale government organisation.
"She will join our senior management team at a time of considerable change, as the FSA continues to deliver its intensive supervisory approach and influence the international regulatory policy agenda, whilst meeting the challenges of designing the future regulatory structure.
“This new regulatory framework will come into force in 2013, with the creation of the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority.
"Zitah's broad communications experience will bring considerable strength to the organisation as we take forward these priorities and those laid out in our business plan."
