As part of the consultation process the FSA is holding a major conference on Tuesday 12 May 2009 in London.
The conference will be the first step in inviting the industry to engage in the review and will allow the FSA to outline its current thinking on the areas where it thinks change is necessary to deliver a market that is sustainable for all participants – consumers, intermediaries, lenders and investors; and a flexible market that works for consumers.
The conference is for those interested in the reform of UK mortgage regulation including senior management and individuals within lenders, intermediaries, networks and administrators who have responsibility for meeting FSA regulatory requirements. It will also be of interest to trade associations, consumer bodies, international regulators, ratings agencies, compliance consultants, and parliamentarians and officials with an interest in financial regulation.
FSA Chairman Lord Turner will open the conference with a keynote speech “Onwards from the Turner Review” and the conference will then address the following issues:
What lessons can be learned from the past?
How can we ensure sustainable funding?
What is the role of distribution in achieving the right outcomes for consumers?
The way forward – Jon Pain FSA retail managing director will outline the areas that the FSA plans to raise in the discussion paper.
Other speakers include Lord Myners, Financial Services Secretary at the Treasury; Michael Coogan, Director General Council of Mortgage Lenders; Chris Cummings Director General, Association of Mortgage Intermediaries; and Peter Vicary-Smith Chief Executive of Which?.
Presentations will be followed by panel discussions and audience participation so that the FSA can understand industry concerns and suggestions.
The conference is at the Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel, 252 High Holborn, London, WC1V 7EN. Registration is from 09.30 and the conference is scheduled to close at 16.40 followed by drinks and networking.
