Mel Kettle, client services director at Gateway, described the move as a “logical step” following their involvement in the strategic review started by SHIP.
He said: “Gateway will provide professional advice around the valuation services required by equity release mortgage providers and we are keen to deliver to fellow members and consumers the high professional standards set by the Equity Release Council.
“The marketplace for equity release is huge, with tremendous growth potential over the next decade or so.”
Andrea Rozario, director general of the Equity Release Council added: “We were keen to broaden the membership of the Council to include the key stakeholders, including advisers, lawyers and surveyors.
“Gateway is recognised for its very high standards of service and for its innovative.”
Membership for the council, formed in May this year, currently stands at 36 and the council are in talks with advisors to expand representation.
