Responding to the Prime Minister's comments on housing benefit proposals made during Prime Minister's Questions, David Salusbury, chairman, National Landlords Association, said: "We would support a genuine effort to reform housing benefit and make it more effective in achieving it's intended aim of supporting people with their housing costs.
"However, the Government's complex series of proposals are not focused on reform, but simply seek to cut £2 billion of housing benefit expenditure from families across the country.
"With over one million households affected by the Government's proposals and the average UK family awarded only £113 per week towards their housing costs, the Government is in danger of breaking the link between housing benefit and the true cost of providing housing in the private-rented sector."
