The only way to help buyers is to drop the Stamp Duty tax. Prime Minister Gordon Brown may continue bleating that he wants to help buyers take that leap onto the property ladder, but until he realises the main burdens they face – i.e. Stamp Duty and continued house price growth – then frankly I can see many leaving the UK market, perferring to rent.
For the housing market, I would suggest that this is not a good thing, despite the increase in buy-to-let this would undoubtedly bring about.
