In an important new development, it has been announced that the well documented Dormant Accounts Bill, introduced into Parliament in November 2007, will receive its Second Reading in the House of Commons on Monday 6th October 2008.
Halifax will now launch the second wave of its campaign to reunite customers with their dormant accounts. To date, Halifax has reunited over £16.6million through its proactive search for forgotten accounts.
Over 7,200 customers have been reunited with funds. Those reunited with their money have received an average balance of £2,326. Customers with balances over £50,000 have been tracked down in 68% of cases.

How someone can forget about an account with a balance of over £50,000 is beyond me, especially in these hard times. It is also seems concerning that it should take legislative intervention before some of these deposits are reunited with their rightful owners.
