The survey reviewed the usage of clubs, networks and packagers (multi-lenders) in the mortgage market.
The research also reveals that the proportion of business which is placed with multi-lenders, at 49%, is the highest figure recorded over the last two years. Higher fees and commission is regarded as the principle reason for using multi-lenders with one stop shop, less hassle and better products cited as other popular reasons for use.
Commenting on these results, IMLA Chairman John Heron said: "With better products, less hassle and higher commissions, it is no wonder that clubs, networks and packagers remain popular choices for the mortgage intermediary. I would expect the growing trend in usage to continue as multi-lender organisations look to offer more services to intermediaries as the date for FSA regulation draws closer. This may well have profound implications for lenders and their distribution strategies as a relatively small number of these organisations will have an increasing opportunity to call the shots."
