New partnership aims to boost UK's green retrofit revolution
Hinckley & Rugby Building Society has joined forces with green retrofit specialist Retrogreen to introduce a pioneering service to the market.
The collaborative effort aims to assist residential and investment property owners in enhancing their property’s energy efficiency and address the affordability barrier by offering a lower-rate green mortgage that covers the entire cost of green retrofitting.
The new service aligns directly with one of the fundamental components of the COP28 Agreement, announced yesterday, which underscores the commitment to doubling the annual rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030, marking a significant step toward achieving environmental sustainability goals.

Hinckley & Rugby said green retrofitting involves making changes that benefit both the property and the environment. These adjustments are tailored to enhance energy efficiency, diminish carbon emissions, elevate comfort, improve the property’s energy performance certificate (EPC) rating, and augment its overall value and desirability.
An important part of the new service is the ease with which people can gain an understanding of their property’s current energy efficiency and create a plan for improving it. Supported financially by Hinckley & Rugby, projects can be managed end to end by Retrogreen.
“We have forged this partnership to support and help drive the UK’s Green Agenda,” stated Colin Fyfe (pictured), chief executive at Hinckley & Rugby Building Society. “Many people are aware of green retrofitting, and know that it could benefit them hugely, but don’t fully understand it. We aim to be with them all the way on the journey to a greener, more energy efficient home.”
