Speaking at the Annual Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) conference, Iain Wright, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, suggested that the market needed a period of calm before HIPs were officially unveiled to the whole of market, but refused to confirm what criteria would be assessed before making a decision. However, Wright did confirm the government’s commitment to reforming the home buying process.
Mike Ockenden, director-general at AHIPP, said: “I would like to see no further hesitation in laying down the final commencement order. This will be to the benefit of first-time buyers and those people trading down from three and four-bed homes. It will also ensure that carbon emissions from our homes are reduced.
“Domestic energy assessors, home inspectors and pack providers were united in the feedback to Wright – there is no reason for any further delay.”
Sarah Gwilt, mortgage adviser at Essential Money Ltd, admitted her hope that a further HIPs roll-out would not commence. “Let’s hope HIPs don’t roll out as I think the market is going to get tighter and it’s just another hurdle to overcome when people consider selling.”
