HIPs knowledge on the increase

Within the trial areas of Bath, Cambridge, Huddersfield, Newcastle, Northampton, Southampton, the index found that 89 per cent of estate agents are able describe a HIP with accuracy.

Despite less than 20 per cent of estate agents in the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) trial areas signing up as participants, 73 per cent of estate agents surveyed had discussed HIPs with their employers, with half of these saying they have been fully briefed.

Karen Babington, sales and marketing director, Easier2move, said: “We are pleased to see that awareness among estate agents in general has gone up since October and we are now at a much more reassuring level, one we have not seen since the end of the summer. The fact that 92 per cent in the trial areas are aware is a boost as well as we move ever closer to the live date."

Rachel Loynes, mortgage adviser at Carterbar Ltd, commented: “I think all estate agents should be aware of what a HIP involves by now. I can see there being problems when this goes live, it one thing to understand how a HIP works but another thing to put it into practice and there will always be teething problems no matter how straight forward the process.”
