Soaping yourself up
As we’ve previously pointed out in this column, linking products or research with TV programmes is a popular/lazy way of attempting to get attention for your press release – who doesn’t remember A&L and its fantastically weak Keeping Up Appearances reference? That’s all of you then.
Well, taking a leaf out of A&L’s book this week is those over-worked souls at the Halifax press office who have diligently researched the non-existent world of soap opera locations and the rise in house prices they would have experienced over the last 20 years. Forgetting the fact that none of these places actually exist of course.
Coming out on top in this pointless exercise is the village of Emmerdale. ‘House prices in Emmerdale have increased by 714 per cent over the last 20 years outperforming the UK average of 445 per cent according to new research from Halifax Estate Agents,’ the release tells us. Great news if you’re Amos Brierley or Mr. Wilkes apart from the fact that they’re both dead. Coming in second place is the now defunct Brookside Close, followed by Coronation Street and EastEnders.
I’m sure TV Quick magazine are wetting their pants with excitement about this while the rest of the UK workforce apply for jobs with the Halifax press team. It seems that you can go on to greater things if you’re employed there – look out for Halifax’s very own Paul Fincham in his new role as Delbert Dingle. His torrid affair with Sadie King is set to light up the screen.
