The Certificate in Financial Studies (CeFS) was introduced by the Institute of Financial Services (ifs) in 2000.
As a vocational qualification that aims to improve financial awareness, CeFS has received support from the financial services industry, and is in line with the FSA's objective of raising consumer awareness. Michael Kirkwood FCIB, UK Corporate Officer for Citigroup and currently ifs Deputy President, presented the awards to the students at a London Ceremony. He said: "CeFS addresses the need to raise students' financial awareness - as part of the national education framework but also as a 'life skill' en route to university and employment. It is terrific to meet students who are also financially well educated.
“Ideally, CeFS will become embedded within the national curriculum, starting with a national roll-out in 2004. The outcomes of this qualification will have a huge impact on the financial services industry of the future."
