Sir Christopher Kelly KCB has been appointed as chairman of the FOS having been a board member since 2002. He is currently chairman of the NSPCC, a board member of National Consumer Council and is former permanent secretary at the Department of Health.
Among the five new non-executive members also appointed is Roger Sanders, who is the Principal of an IFA and employee benefits consultancy and former joint chairman of the FSA small business practitioner panel.
Chris Cummings, director of AMI, said: “Roger is well placed to represent our members views having already served as the deputy chairman of Association of Independent Financial Advisors (AIFA). He was also instrumental in helping to set AMI. This is terrific news for intermediaries.”
Richard Fox, chief executive of the Society of Mortgage Professionals, also welcomed the news. He said: “The more representation we as a profession receive on the FOS board the better. This must be seen as encouraging for both mortgage and insurance brokers whose activities will still be relatively new to the Ombudsman service.”
FSA Chairman Callum McCarthy said: “I am very pleased that we have, again, managed to secure the appointment of high calibre individuals with a wide range of relevant skills and experience to the FOS Board and that a number of experienced and valued board members have agreed to serve for a further term.”
Other new appointments to the board include Richard Hampton: currently a senior manager in HSBC’s Group Insurance and a director of HSBC Reinsurance (Ireland) Ltd and Caroline Banks: currently a member of various panels including the Association of Energy Suppliers Code Panel.
