Jonathan Sadler, director of sales and marketing at igroup, said: "We are delighted to be backing the venture. Why? Because not only do we believe that an educational facility such as this is a great investment in the future of the younger generation, but we also believe that companies such as igroup should use these opportunities to give something back to society."
The school is hoping that the funds raised will be enough to get a central government grant of £600,000 to build the Centre.
"I would like to thank igroup for digging deeply into their pockets," said Ed Tackas, publisher of BestAdvice.net. "The company’s gesture means an awful lot to the school.
"My hope is that other lenders and packagers are able to help us. As igroup’s donation proves, financial services companies are caring organisations – and not the faceless corporate beasts they are sometimes perceived as by the public."
David Rowlinson, Cowplain Community School’s head teacher, said: "The project got just the boost it needed after BestAdvice.net put their weight and enthusiasm behind us. Now the project has come to life and we are confident that the money will be raised by the October 2002 deadline."
