From 1 July 2005 firms will have to start submitting returns to the FSA using a secure web-based system. This is the first stage in implementing its decision to introduce mandatory electronic reporting for all firms except credit unions. The FSA has sent a factsheet to firms explaining how the new arrangements will work.

New look for the Principality

The Principality, Wales’s largest building society, launched its new look on St David’s Day (1 March) with the aim of supporting its plans of providing a wider choice of products and services to its customers. The new identity, which includes a bolder logo, gives a new look and feel to its 51 branches and customer communication materials.

Bowman joins Oryen

Karen Bowman has been appointed as head of business development strategy at Middlesbrough-based Oryen Ltd. Karen previously worked for three years at Platform where she managed packaged and branded partner accounts. Her role will be to increase the profile of Oryen Ltd in the market place through increased sales, recruitment and further panel appointments.

Vesta launches conveyancing operation

Vesta Packaging is poised to launch a service-focused in-house conveyancing division. Operated in partnership with national conveyancer Goldsmith Williams, it is being established to speed up transactions by providing seven-day-a-week trading, online tracking, a direct link to the Land Registry and fixed-price guarantees. The service goes live in early April.

Just Retirement joins SHIP

New product provider Just Retirement has successfully applied for membership of SHIP (Safe Home Income Plans), the UK equity release industry body. Just Retirement officially joined SHIP on 21 February and brings the number of SHIP members to 18. Just Retirement launched in August 2004 offering enhanced annuities.

CETA launches Premium Club

CETA, the independent general insurance network, has announced the launch of the CETA Premium Club, which will enable brokers to provide their clients with access to a range of general insurance products.

CETA Premium Club is aimed at brokers who don’t have the time or resource to become involved in general insurance sales.

Mortgages Direct recruiting brokers

Mortgages Direct, the financial services subsidiary of the Spicerhaart estate agency group, plans to expand by 50 per cent, following a surge in mortgage applications since the New Year. Mortgages Direct is currently undergoing a recruitment drive. The company is looking to recruit 37 brokers.
