He will report to mortgage sector manager at the FSA, David Geale.
Cornell said the role was “quite broad” and he believed it would make use of his mortgage sector experience.
He said: “I’ve been passionate about financial services for a long time and I’m hoping to be able to use some of the experience I’ve built up over the years. I’m very much looking forward to this opportunity.”
David Geale said: "Jonathan brings with him a wealth of experience and will be a valuable addition to the team"
Cornell, currently working as a consultant with Colleys and Barclays Woolwich, has been in the mortgage industry for over 15 years.
Most recently he was head of communications at London-based mortgage broker First Action Finance.
Previously he was managing director of mortgage broker Hamptons International Mortgages and has also spent six years in sales at NatWest Bank.
Cornell describes himself as a “well balanced all rounder with experience of every facet of the broker business including sales and marketing, IT, compliance and operations”.
