He will work closely with self-employed advisers across Scotland and the North East of England
National brokerage Just Mortgages has expanded its self-employed division and strengthened its presence in Scotland with the appointment of Grant MacKay (pictured) as sales manager.
Based near Motherwell, MacKay will work closely with 25 self-employed advisers across Scotland and the North East of England, with plans to expand as the division grows. He is expected to leverage his nearly 15 years of experience to help advisers enhance their skills and grow their businesses, utilising in-house training and support.
MacKay began his career with HSBC in 2010, initially supporting customer service queries in the telephony division. He later moved into mortgages with HSBC as an assistant manager and team manager. In 2014, he completed his CII qualification and became an adviser. He then joined Carrington Mortgage Services as a mortgage and protection adviser before moving to firstmortgages.co.uk, where he most recently served as sales quality manager.
The latest appointment is part of the brokerage’s plans to grow the division, which is nearing 500 self-employed advisers. Including its employed division, Just Mortgages has over 650 brokers across the UK. Recently, the self-employed division appointed Zarah Gulfraz as area director for the north region. The broker firm also promoted Gareth Lowndes to the role of sales director of client services.
“Grant’s appointment is the next step in increasing support for brokers and growing our presence north of the border,” said Ben Allkins, head of mortgages and protection at Just Mortgages. “He brings with him plenty of experience which will be hugely valuable to our brokers as they look to improve service, increase skills and ultimately, grow their own businesses.
“Whether it’s a new or established self-employed adviser, or even a business principal working with their own team of advisers, we have invested considerable time, effort and resources to ensure we provide the right infrastructure around each and every person. In addition to a talented and experienced management team, this includes day-to-day support with sales, marketing and compliance, as well as ongoing training and mentoring.”
Commenting on his appointment, MacKay expressed excitement over joining the team and using his expertise to support brokers across the region and help build the Just Mortgages brand further in Scotland.
“Just Mortgages has always been on my radar with its strong brand and presence in the market,” he said. “When I saw this opportunity come up, it really ticked all the boxes for me.
“Everyone I have spoken to so far has been really switched on, and I’ve been so impressed with the onboarding and training that is provided to all staff. Knowing how fast the division and business has grown, it’s exciting to see what the future holds – especially for a business that clearly has growth at the forefront of its plans. I look forward to playing my part.”
