It is natural that an intermediary should want to establish how a particular case is progressing and a good relationship with a solicitor is therefore of paramount importance. Similarly, receiving confirmation that a completion has been effected so insurances can be initiated should be automatic. Direct contact and regular progress updates should be the norm, both before and after completion, and brokers’ frustration where this is not happening is therefore highly understandable.
While the Law Society is correct in stating that solicitors’ duty is to their client, brokers should be kept abreast of the matter, both for their own good and so that they are up-to-date when speaking to the customer.
I can only hope that solicitors heed David Nicholson’s comments and appreciate what a vital role brokers play in the industry and treat them as such.
