The Government plans to introduce Home Information Packs in 2007.
Speaking at the Law Society Property Section Annual Conference in London, Kevin Martin, Law Society President, said:
"The Law Society's pack will have numerous advantages; these include a fast efficient on-line service which will require nothing more than a PC and an internet connection. The pack will be fully compliant with government's HIP regulations and will be competitively priced."
"I want to emphasise the point that the regulations have not yet been published. We do not know what will be the prescribed content of the packs, but things are becoming clearer. As a result, the full specification of the Law Society HIP will be settled over the coming months - once the Regulations become available."
Mr Martin continued: "Meanwhile, the Law Society will continue to ensure that a full dry-run of the proposed HIPs is conducted in 2006 before any final decisions are taken by Government on the final HIPs scheme and its implementation. It is essential to be sure that HIPs will in fact bring the benefits to consumers that the Government claims.
"Whatever the final scheme it is important that conveyancing solicitors are enabled to provide this service to their clients who wish to sell their homes.
"The Society is pleased to be working with MDA to provide this service for conveyancing solicitors."
