Carol, 43, is human resources director and one of only nine directors on the main board at Argos Ltd, which has 650 stores and over 20,000 staff in the UK.
Carol was born in Leeds and went on to Manchester University and Nottingham Trent University, where she achieved a BA (Hons) in Latin with French and an MA in Strategic Human Resource Management.
During her successful career, Carol has gained over 20 years experience in retail and this will be her only non-executive appointment. She will continue in her senior role at Argos Ltd.
Commenting on her appointment, Carol said: "I was born in Leeds and have very strong connections with the city. The opportunity to work for a highly successful independent building society based in Leeds is particularly exciting and I look forward to strengthening and building even greater links in the area.
"Financial Services is a growing area and I hope that my experience in retailing, combined with my expertise as a HR professional, will enable me to add value to both customers and staff of the Society."
